Apparently he thought these were good words to end on. If I told you why he chose these last words out of all the others that sat so plump in his gargantuan dictionary, then I may ruin your expectations of Mr. John Dinkman, or maybe I don’t know myself. Perhaps it had something to do with the gleaming horizon that he woke to every morning as he rolled out of bed, peered out of his window, and watched the crystalline strands of orange light melt the cold harsh smoke that pumped out of the cities veins. Or maybe it had something to do with the neutrality of his current professional position at the Chicago tribune as staff journalist. It was 1:00 a.m. Around him sat seven glasses of water which had been each been sipped the same amount of times. John cascaded the wheels of his chair across the lumpy laminate wood as he sprawled his sore body back, staring at his typed words for a few moments thinking about the sporadic manner in which he typed them and what they meant at all. He gently pulled back the cardboard hinge on his pack of Marlboro 27’s, plucked a fresh cigarette out, and brought the Styrofoam stub to his lips. He allowed it to dangle there. John Dinka alternated glances between his blotted typewriter paper and his small rectangular alarm clock which rested on a low sitting chipped maple dresser. After a few minutes had gone by, he put the dangling cigarette back in the box (Tobacco side facing up for good luck.) He loosened the bright yellow tie that hung around his neck, and plopped his sore body down on the slightly damp bed leaving a parade of dust in the sky from impact. It was now 1:30 a.m in Chicago on a Wednesday. John Dinkman was in no rush to start his life, but had no objection in ending it. John was not suicidal of course. I have very, very bad anxiety over my appearance, I dont find myself an attractive person. I used to, but the anxiety got worse and has changed my total perception of myself. I am very paranoid that if i do something in life that is bad or i think is bad it is going to come back and haunt me and terrible things are going to happen, like i will get fat or ugly. Its terrible, i would LOVE to be a normal girl and just have fun in life like I used to be. About a month ago, I was feeling really good I recently recovered from depression and I felt noticed by guys, i felt great, I felt like my life was getting back to how to it used to be. Now i feel like complete crap, i dont look or feel good and guys aren't really looking at me. I dont even understand it. I have to agree, it is a little over descriptive. Also, mention the other bot at leats once... we didn't even know he was there until the second-last sentence. And you say 'Andrew' too often. I know when you're writing you feel the need to say the characters names often, in case people forget who you are talking about, but when you reread it you notice that the name is in there too much. Try and replace some of the 'Andrews' with other words.

Don't get me wrong, I know a lot about grasshoppers, but I couldn't find the info on google. I am in the middle of a project on raising and breeding grasshoppers, and it's been kinda hard to find grasshoppers in my neighborhood yet, so I want to save my grasshopper if I can. I found her awkwardly hanging upside down, legs sprawled in some of the grass branches last night. I gently touched her, and her movement was weak. She looked slightly crippled. After maybe ten/fifteen minutes of trying to dig her out of the grass as gently as possible with a pair of bug tweezers, (I wasn't sure if she was disease ridden or not, otherwise I would have just grabbed her gently with my fingers) I finally managed to to get her out and found some skin coming off, as if she was injured whilst shedding. I got a cup, aluminum foil, a small branch from the cage, and cut a piece of carrot and made a little cage for her. She was moving a little before I put her in, but she hasn't moved since. I'm pretty sure she's dead, but is there a chance she's crippled? All of my pets have a place in my heart, and I don't want her to suffer, but I would like to know. And if she is just injured, how can I heal her if possible.

Last week on Sunday night I was recovering from a small cold I had had for only a couple days. That night I developed a semi-dry cough that continued for 4 or 5 days. On the 4th day it became a completely dry cough that was giving me headaches. Thankfully the cough recessed a little and was as severe. This happened on Friday. It is now Tuesday night and I still have the cough but it is getting better at least I think. I want to know what it is I had or still have. I am a 15 year old male and I do not smoke. Also, in the morning when I get out of bed my cough is not dry but gradually dries out as the day proceeds. I don't take any medication and haven't taken anything for the cough. I have only been drinking lots of tea and getting sleep. Please let me know what you think.

Also that same day after i spoke to the lady i attend a open house meeting. there was a speaker talking about all the great things that you will do for people like working with people who are recovering lets say form a injuries, rehab, people with diabetes, others who need rehabilitation like those people who are starting to walk either because either they were hospitalize, or had a accident. Also they said that you could work in some type of hospital places, gyms, and other places to. My husband struck me what should I do?

Why are my photos blank (Windows Vista)?

I just imported some photos onto my computer today. I could see the photos fine. Then I proceeded to edit my photos in Microsoft Office Picture Manager. I was also running a Norton 360 scan at the same time. When my Norton scan ended, some of my photos were showing up blank/white. I closed Picture Manager without saving and went to see if my photo thumbnails were showing up in my Photos folder. They were still blank so I restarted my computer in hopes of it fixing itself. When my computer restarted, the photos were still coming up blank. I really need these photos and would like to recover them. The files are still there, they just look like I took a picture of a white abyss. My Norton 360 scan cleaned up Windows Temporary Files, and I believe this may have to do with why my photos messed up. Please help.

How to loose weight without my parents knowing?

Okay so I am 13, 5'1 and 95 pounds. The past year has been horrible for me. I went through depression, I'm still recovering. My parents have no clue, they barely know me. I put the paper in my pillowcase. Well for some reason my mom decided to change my pillowcase. She found the paper. She told me I'm perfectly fine. IM NOT. HELPP! my dumpy frog looks dead...?

So I woke up this morning and my dumpy tree frog was all sprawled out on the ground and his legs look all limp so I thought he was dead but 10 minutes later I saw him breathing, but still in the same possession as before. it will not hurt you if you drink it after. think about it, you eat protein all day. thats like saying you cant eat nuts after running a mile. It will not make you fat if you drink it after because it will just replace the nutrients you lost. Its best to drink the protein an hour or two before and you will have alot of long term energy. It doesnt matter what kind of workout it is really, nutrients are nutrients. A tip- in order to avoid cramping... eat a banana an hour our two before your workout. the potassium helps get rid of the lactic acid that pools in the muscle which is the cause of cramping. Tired dizzy and weak!!! Antibiotics?

I'm 32 yes old and have been sick since start of month. Overall I've had a weeks supply of antibiotics and steriods twice and was getting mo better so admitted to hospital where I received oral and iv antibiotics and I got alot better quickly. I had a chest infection that turned nasty! Anyway today I've just been released from hospital and I've 5 more days of 2 lots of antibiotics to take. But since I came home I feel very weak tired and very dizzy when I get up and walk around. Is tat normal?? Will the amount of antibiotics I've taken over last 3 weeks make me feel so weak tired dizzy and sick? How long can I expect to feel like this ?any advice on how to recover better!

Why am I slow to recover from paralytic drugs, and what is done to prevent this affect?

I have had and continue to have multiple surgeries. Each time I am very slow to recover from the paralytic drugs in recovery. I either have to be given oxygen and breathing treatments, or I am once again reintubated and put in ICU until the paralytics have had time to sufficiently clear my system. But it's one of those things where if you don't try, you'll never really know. You can try talking to her as a friend long-distance for awhile and see if it's going well, and if it is, then maybe take it to a more serious level. It can be tricky, though, because you are so far apart for so long, when you do see each other it's like Utopia and it's harder to see problems in the relationship that can turn into even greater problems later on if they are not addressed immediately. I have very, very bad anxiety over my appearance, I dont find myself an attractive person. I used to, but the anxiety got worse and has changed my total perception of myself. Trying to get close with my brother again after a trauma that occured thirty years ago?

In 1981, my eight-year-old brother Andrew was kidnapped by a family acquaintance and held hostage for three weeks. During this time, he was routinely beaten and sexually abused by his captor. He was also burned with boiling water and forced to listen while his captor made crank calls to our family pretending to be the police, telling us that Andrew had been found. He was rescued after three weeks. It had taken that long to track him down because his captor had them moving around all the time. It's strange to me how a period of time as short as three weeks could destroy so many lives, and leave so many still broken after thirty years. Andrew's body recovered from the trauma, but his mind never healed. The Andrew that came back to us was not the Andrew we had previously known. Before the trauma, Andrew was very social and outgoing. We were only two years apart and always very close. I never had any other brothers or sisters. He was a sweet little boy with a good sense of humor, and, being an older sister, I teased him constantly. Not meanly, but in a playful way. He is the most ticklish person to ever walk planet Earth, and as a little kid he loved it when I tickled his feet. We wrestled and play-fought and just enjoyed being with each other. When he came back, everything changed. Andrew had always been close to me and my parents also, but after he came back he acted like he couldn't even stand the sight of us. I could never understand that. I thought he should be happy to be back with us, people who loved him. He told me when he was older that I was a stranger to him and that there was a gulf separating him from everyone else. He was resentful that other people hadn't been where he had been. When he first came back and started beng like that, I tried so hard to bring him back. I tickle-attacked him like I used to and even though he squirmed and laughed just the same, he didn't enjoy it at all. He wouldn't wrestle either, and didn't seem to want to be around me at all. He did well in school and never had issues with drugs and alcohol, he's been successful in life and has a wife and kids, but for the past thirty years you can tell that something in him is just gone. Something inside him died all those years ago and, despite this, I still hope so hard that I can bring him back. I still see him and our children play together, but that confidence is gone. He underwent counseling as a child and teen but it didn't help him and he doesn't see anyone anymore. I encourage him to see someone about his depression and the pain he still feels but he says it wouldn't make any difference. I'm sorry this post is so long but I just don't know what to do to help him. He's physically healthy and financially stable, but I want to be close to him again and my parents want the same. I Think My House Is Haunted?

My house is a victorian house, With high ceilings and I've lived in it all my life and ever since I can remember, I always felt like I was being watched. When I was younger I always slept in my mums bedroom because that was the only room I felt safe, When she would ask me to go wake up my sisters on the third floor, I would always feel like something was watching me. When I entered secondary school and three of my sisters and brothers moved out, I was put in my sisters old room, On the third floor. Whenever I go up to the room to sleep, I run up the stairs, Skipping steps to go quicker and in the room it feels like something is in the corner by the door. Recently when I walk past the bedroom next to mine the door handle is always pressed down, I lift it up again then the next morning it is pressed down again and nobody goes into the room since my brother moved out. At night when I'm in my room I hear footsteps in the attic then they stop and the feeling of being watched returns along with coldness. My drawing book was next to my bed once and that night when I went to get it, It wasn't there. It appeared the next day on the table next to my bed where I would have seen it the day before and there were tears in some of the pages. Whenever I go into the kitchen, The light starts to flicker but then my mum comes in and it stops. When I was 3, I woke up from my sleep and looked out into the dark hallway from my mums room and then something shadowy moved by the door, towards my bed, I screamed and my mum woke up and the shadow disappeared. Also when I try to go to sleep in my room, If I turn towards the walls, I get images in my head of Old women killing little children and Shadows with demonic faces. None of these things happen when I go to my Dads on weekends and I only feel like I'm being watched sometimes there. Also whenever I leave my school blazer on the kitchen table over the weekend, My things always appear sprawled out on the table on monday morning, My mum and other brother always say they never touched it, every time I ask if they did.

What happened to my dog?

My dog is about 12 years old (I know,she's getting up there) and this morning I was taking her on a walk and suddenly she just collapsed, with her legs sprawled out from under her in a very un-dog-like position. She couldn't get up, and I ended up having to call my mom to come pick her up. All day she has just remained in my room, only moving to climb in and out of my closet. At first she didn't have an appetite, but I finally got her to eat some food (turkey meat, almond butter, and wet dog food) along with drinking some water. She lays down with her legs straight out, so it seems as if she is in pain. What happened to her? I think maybe a mini-stroke or a heart attack. I'm recovering from a recent bout of anorexia. I've been trying to get my weight back up and eating the extra calories, but I don't like the idea of gaining back solely fat. I'd like some muscle instead. If I work out (just muscle building, and no cardio) on top of the extra food will I still keep putting on the weight I need, but more in muscle?

Discoloration on dogs legs..?

I have a dog that is now 2 years old. And we lived in an area infested with cats and fleas, we moved about a month ago to another flea free home. He is still recovering all the flea bites, he had really bad bites and was really infest with fleas but now his skin looks discolored, like black/burnt color. It is on his back side near the upper thighs and on his private parts. The skin itself is discolored, when I pass my hand to see if it is bruised or if it hurts him but it does not bug him at all. Can anyone suggest what it is and will that discoloration go away with time? I have aloe vera can I keep adding that, if that will help? When he had a lot of them he was soo itchy that he pulled his hairs out just to scratch himself. Now his hairs are growing back nicely. He is always with a happy attitude never sad or sleeping all the time likes to play a lot now that he is in our new place. So if any one can suggest something or what I can put on him to take that discoloration away. I have a benedryl cream, can I put that on him if he needs it too? thanks in advanced. Red Heeler/ Cattle dog?

I have a red heeler/pitt bull mix and when we raised him he was always great with other dogs as are most all types of cattle dog. He was easy with food not an overeater nor a greedy one either. He is very good with kids and heelers are extremely smart dogs so they learn and catch onto habits very quickly. They are also very loyal and protective dogs. Personally I don't think you will have any problems but again all dogs are different with different personas.

Baby Hummingbird in the Cold?

I found a baby hummingbird-- it has some green iridescent feathers, but still some of that fluffy white stuff-- sprawled flightless on the concrete and could not locate its nest. After determining that it was not injured, I placed it in an old shoebox with cloth and toilet paper and fed it sugar water until his mom found him after she heard him crying. All day, she has been feeding him on our balcony every 20-30 minutes (we’ve been clocking) and now that it is dark, she’s not returning (probably sleeping). Should I bring the box inside for the night, providing I keep the baby in the dark so that it doesn’t think it’s day? What Tree should I plant?

We need shelter trees for our cattle and horses. We planted Leyland Cypress and after three years of growing well large numbers have died due to waterlogging. Hello, I'm 15 years old and recently i have started doing press/push ups, Although today i heard that your not suppose to do them everyday. Just released from hospital question about dizziness and weakness!?

I'm 32 yes old and have been sick since start of month. Overall I've had a weeks supply of antibiotics and steriods twice and was getting mo better so admitted to hospital where I received oral and iv antibiotics and I got alot better quickly. I had a chest infection that turned nasty! Anyway today I've just been released from hospital and I've 5 more days of 2 lots of antibiotics to take. But since I came home I feel very weak tired and very dizzy when I get up and walk around. Is tat normal?? Will the amount of antibiotics I've taken over last 3 weeks make me feel so weak tired dizzy and sick? How long can I expect to feel like this ?any advice on how to recover better!

This is something that happens. I have never had a really solid group of friends that I hang out with for more than a year. This happens I think because you guys don't really know what's happening with each other. Keep in mind you guys spend most of your time in class. So when you guys don't have the same classes you tend to separate. But the year's almost over and you will be going to high school next year. There will be a whole bunch of new people to meet and you guys probably would have separated in high school. Lif is hard and it sometimes is harder than at other's times, but what we have total control over is what choices we make. So go to the doctor and get something like an anti depressant to help you cope and then start dealing with each issue one by one, if you sit and think about everything all at once and all the time, you are always going to feel dispondent and totally overwhelmed, but if you break it all up into bits you can deal with one at a time, then it is fixable.

I went to conseling about a year ago and the idiot diagnosed me with Adjustment Disorder which is complete bullshit but the reason he did was because in order to take drug tests I had to have a reason. I have noticed blurred vision, and pain in the lower back, etc. No hair loss. Now, i want to be a picture of health when I grow up, how can I recover from all this. From personal experience I see that too many people that shouldn't have children are having babies like it's OK. I feel so sorry for the sorrow, and misfortunes these poor children have to go through just because young people think their grown,and it's b/c of people who think just b/c they can, they have children senselessly. I have learned through my own experience that I shouldn't have had children being that I was still trying to cope, and recover from a drastic childhood that I experienced and had no one to help me deal with. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't of had my children at the time I had them. I believe a lot of our hardships now is b/c of my lack of knowledge, wisdom, maturity, etc, etc, I was emotionally damaged, mentally confused, and disturbed. There is so much more that meets the eye to raising healthy children. If I had enough money I would become an advocate for children, trying to educate young people, to avoid, prevent, and think hard not to have children aimlessly. So many of us are not ready to bring another little people into this world that's all ready so challenging, and corrupted. Please try to Consider Adoption, giving your child to someone that can afford to give your child a better chance in life. Prevention, so not to bring in misery for everyone, including the child when you're not ready for the child. Think, think, think, not of yourself but for this innocent, helpless little human being that knows nothings of what's to come if you're not ready to bring them up as they so well deserve.

How to get my young adult dog to stop biting?

I have an Australian Cattle dog that I adopted last month. She is six months old, and is frequently nipping at us. She is also jumping on everyone. My 76 yr old father had open heart surgery a few weeks ago.?

He normally lives with my 78 yr old mother in their apartment, but he has been staying with my wife, 2 children (3 & 6) for the last 2 1/2 weeks. He has recovered well, but I am already burned out. He can care for himself now, but has not mentioned returning home. My wife and I are simply too tired with work and kids. New kitten owner- a couple questions / need tips?

I found this lil kitten crying, hungry and scared - in my backyard. I brought him inside, fed him some chicken that I just cooked. That was about 4pm- it's now 1130, and we haven't seen him pee/poop anywhere. Is that normal? I haven't had a cat since I was a kid, so any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. How do I get my girls to get along?

I have three dogs Issabell 4yr old retriver/lab, Jessabell 3yr old austrilian cattle/beagle, & Claireabell 1yr old chesapeake bay/rottie/lab. They were all raised by me I got them at 8 weeks old. Issy and Jessy have always gotten along and up until reacently they were fine with Claire. In the last two weeks Jessy has become very jealuse of Claire, two nights ago they had a fight Claire goes right for Jessys throat but Claire ends up worse she had a hugh cut on her leg from Jessys nails. Yesterday they went at it again and Claire ended up with a huge hemotoma on her face, there was blood every where just pouring out of Claires face, I'm not sure if it's from Jessys nails or teeth. My vet wasn't in so I went to the closest vet, because I didn't have my checkbook on me and only $50 with me ( I had to bring back a post dated check for the remainder, $63) (I only get paid every other week) he only gave me pain meds, antibotics, & an med to keep her calm. even though there was blood every where in the office, her left cheek looks like she has a softball in it that's all he did. The very first question was "what do you have on you for money to work with before we start treatment". Also he never came close enough to even see what was actually wrong with her, he stayed on one side of the room and Claire, myself and my sister on the other. He said idealy it should be opened and cleaned but because I didn't have enough with me he wouldn't do it. I made an appoiment for Claire to go to her vet Saturday to get her checked out right. But does anyony have any suggestions how to stop this before one ends up seriously hurt. I do know part of the problem is that Jessy has chosen me as her "person" she is very protective of me and doesn't like Claire to be by me(Issy put jessy in her "place" early so jessy don't mess with her). So around friday I noticed a little pain after the gym in my right arm. I was working my biceps and back. It still hurts, I went swimming at the lake sunday and it hurt like hell after my swim. I'm at the pool now and it hurt me during my swim. I don't even want to swim anymore because its bugging me and I don't want to injure myself more. . It feels like its my tricep near my elbow. Not hungry, but I HAVE to eat...?

A good thing to do would be to make a list of foods you like and eat those more often. That way, when you have to eat, you'll enjoy the calories. If you aren't hungry, but you have to eat, try eating foods that will be good for your body. As long as you know that the foods will benefit your body, not make you fat, you won't mind eating them as much. To gain weight, you could also take up weightlifting. Muscle weighs more than fat, so that will help you gain healthy weight faster. I dont really know of a way to be hungrier, but I suppose you could try making delicious meals that make you want to eat. If you see food that you like, you'll feel hungry, even if in reality you aren't actually that hungry. Basically, you just want the taste. Im glad thay you are recovering from it. I can imagine how hard it must be and I desperately want you to succeed. It is great to know that there are people out there with the willpower to overcome anorexia. If one of the main reasons you dont want to eat is a fear of becoming fat, keep in mind that you burn calories just being awake. You even burn them sleeping. You can definitely gain healthy weight by weightlifting and keep off the unhealthy fat by eating nutritious foods that will help your bones and muscles. Good luck and I hope this helped!
